Question:
Any Suggestions....On how I can get my surgeon's office to submit paperwork sooner?

My surgeon's office is not planning on submitting my insurance approval until July (my surgery is scheduled for August 1st). I have heard that my insurance company sometimes stalls with approvals and tends to deny the first time around. I have tried to get the surgeon's office to send it in a little early, to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can say to make them send in the paperwork...all I am asking for is mid-June instead of July. When I went in for my appontment to schedule a surgery date, I was told that once I was on the O.R. schedule, they would submit paperwork to my insurance company for approval, but since then, I guess it has changed because they said they generally send in the paperwork 2 weeks before surgery. Its just so stressful to me and I am having anxiety over this and I really feel that if they would just send it in, I'd feel so much better about it. Sorry this is so long winded...Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.    — Giovanna G. (posted on May 22, 2002)

Call the surgeon's office and say just what your question said, you are anxious that your insurance company will not give a quick answer and you will miss your surgery date. They will be able to tell you if they've had delays from your insurance company. They will be able to tell you if they'd mind working up your paperwork ahead of schedule.

I think I would ask for a copy of all the paperwork and send it to the insurance company myself. That way you can track what's going on.
