Question:
What does it mean when your Ins. Co. tells you that the answer for surgery is in the
I just called my insurance company and was told that the answer for my surgery will be mailed out today, I asked if they could give me the answer over the phone and they said no. I am afraid that this means that it was denied and they don't want to tell me that over the phone. Help! — Joanne B. (posted on May 10, 2002)

Joanne, I had the same thing happen... and much to my relief, the answer
was YES. I'll keep my fingers crossed that's what you'll be hearing, too!

speaking as someone who answers the phones for an insurance comp., all it
really means sometimes is all it tells us (those answering the phones) in
the computer is the date the letter was mailed. if its blank, we answer
"it is still under review" if theres a date we can say "it
has completed review, the notice of coverage decision was mailed out
xx-xx-xxxx" :) keep hope!
