Question:
cigna changed criteria ???
my 1st denial, Cigna said I had to be on at least a 12 week supervised diet. Now the 2nd denial Cigna is saying at lease 6 months supervised diet. I have been seeing a RN with diet & excersise consuling since Aug 2001 (6 months) now and sent this documation, but for some reason they can read it or they arent accepting it, which doesnt make sense cuz they would accept a high school girl from weight watchers stamping your chart but not an RN what they HECK. I am soooo MAD i am giving Cigna 1 more chance then I am writing the STATE INSURANCE BOARD.... — Kim P. (posted on February 10, 2002)

Make your insurance company put in writing exactly what they need. You
might also want to get a copy of the policy from your employer's Human
Resources Department and see what it has to say on WLS.

It has been my observation, based on what I've read here and having Cigna
myself, that Cigna is quite inconsistent. They kept losing my paperwork.
I agree with the poster who said the insurance company should provide you
with what they need in writing, and they should also provide the policy
guidelines they use to make these decisions. Make them defend their
arbitrary decisions!

I thought I was reading my own posting when I saw yours!!! I also had Cigna
change their "critera" midstream. The first denial stated 6
months of supervised diet. The second letter stated 12 months supervised
with at least half of that time being within the last year!!! It is
absolutely mind boggling. When I call Cigna to find out what the actual
critera is, they have no answer. I really am losing my mind. I'm sure they
are banking on that so they don't have to cover the surgery. I really am at
a loss.
