I've been told my insurance requires you to be on a medically supervised diet for at least 12 consecutive months...anyone been thru this or have any ideas on how to get around it? Any help would be grately appreciated! — [Anonymous] (posted on November 8, 2001)

I was told to go on a supervised diet of 800 calories a day, see a
nutritionist, an exercise specialist, then go to Over Eaters Anonnymous for
12 months. I bout died! I have done all that but it was not
"documented". I felt like it was just a hurdle to make me crawl
away in despair. You can read my page to see the entire story and how I
got approved.

I have basically the same problem. My insurance thinks this is my first
attempt at losing weight. They want records from other drs. This is the
first time in 42 yrs I have asked for help. I spent over 10 yrs on what I
call a restricted eating plan, I didn't gain any weight but then I didn't
lose any. I didn't watch my eating to lose weight, I did it so I would not
get any larger. This lady is going to be surprized when I hit her with my
letter of how embarrassed she makes me feel asking for help. I have to lose
150 lbs, not 25 or so, which I think she beleives. If anyone wants to help
me in this with my insurance, email me your letter of how hard it is to ask
for help with weight lose and how people who we go to for help make us
feel. Due to insurance requirements I had to change drs, I just found a dr
after 20 some yrs of searching, but he doesn't take my insurance. This dr
was recommended from the dr who I want to go to.
