Anyone been forced by Ins.Co to be on med supervised diet for 12 straight mos.?

I've been told my insurance requires you to be on a medically supervised diet for at least 12 consecutive months...anyone been thru this or have any ideas on how to get around it? Any help would be grately appreciated!
