Question:
Does everyone that has open RNY have to be on Ventilater & have NG tube??
My Dr is Dr Jaurez in Phoenix AZ if any of you have had open RNY done by him please tell me if you were on a ventilater and had NG tube? I have a terrible fobia of both! When I think of ventilaters I think of death, because my mama was on one right before she died 2 years in Dec. And I had a bad experiance with NG tube. Thanks with any help you can give. I have not had the surgery as of yet but they explained to me was the
ventolator is just to help you breath, and the ng tube is for precautions
in case you have fluid that needs to be taking out of your new stomach.

EVERY weight loss surgery patient is on a ventilator during surgery. I was
scared of it too, but it turned out to not be a issue. Just a bit of a sore
throat for a day or so, and a minor one at that.

I have to agree with the other posts that you will be on a ventilator
during surgery. You will be asleep when they put the tubes in and you'll
be so out of it when they take them out that you won't even know.
Unfortunately, my NG tube had to stay in for four days which was the most
uncomfortable thing about the whole surgery. I also work in the
hospital/operating room that I had surgery so I knew everyone around me and
they took excellent care of me. I was asleep before I even rolled into the
operating room so I don't remember a thing, which I think is a good thing.
Don't worry about these tubes. You are in the hands of professionals.
Good luck! :-)

I had both removed in recovery prior to my waking up, so I never knew I had
them.

I have had several major surgeries ( not related to weight
loss/ surergy) and I always had the tube, never knew I had it in. It's not
a big deal, sometimes the tube gives me a bad sore throat for 1-2 days but
then I'm ok, without the tube you will probably die.

I had DR Fallang, of Middletown , OH. He doesnt use the NG or G tube and no
cathater either.............he wants his patients up and walking/going to
the bathroom within several hours after surgery, The first few times up,
frankly, hurt like H***, but I needed to get up. I had Open RnY on Mon. Oct
1 , which is considered on here day zero, and went home on Wed. Oct3, which
is considered day 2. Not bad for Major operation.
