Question:
Has anyone had a hernia repaired and their stomach transected at the same time?
I had RNY surgery 3/19/01, stomach was stapled--as of 8/21/01 surgeon informs me the leak I had from the beginning involved 5 staples-can eat as much as before now. I have also developed a large hernia at my navel, Dr. says he can transect my stomach(to fix the staple problem) and correct my hernia at the same time. Just would like to know if anyone has had this done and their results. — [Anonymous] (posted on September 1, 2001)

That's a fairly routine procedure for the stapled people, unfortunately.
My doc's been transecting since 1996, but lots of the pre-96ers have the
combo model. Sad, but very doable. Apparently the hernia is a little more
uncomfy than the repair job. But everyone seems to have done just fine
with it. I've had tiny hernias fixed with original RNY, TT and then
revision. Never noticed anything out of the ordinary with any procedures.
OK, I DID get a little grumpy for a few days.

I had open RNY, gallbladder removal and hernia repair from old c-sections
all at the same time and still healed up fine. Don't really think the pain
was any worse. Would rather do it all at the same time, anyway!

i have a very very old incisional hernia. it has never bothered me so i
havent bothered it. since looking into wls, i have been told by 4 different
docs that it MUST be repaired at the time of wls or i will not heal
properly. it is nothing major since u r open already. all it involves is
pushing everything back where it belongs & sewing the muscle closed.
