Question:
Has anyone heard of or had surgery with Dr. Harrington in Richmond, VA?

I have my first consultation set up for the 17th of August with Dr. Gary Harrington of Commonwealth Surgeons in Richmond VA. He's a somewhat newer partner to Dr. Hutcher who I know is a very respectable surgeon and well known in this area. Has anyone heard or know of Dr. Harrington, or perhaps has talked with him before or has had surgery done by him? I don't know too much about him except for what their office has already told me. I haven't had surgery yet, but I did have my consultation appointment with Dr. Harrington in July. I am very impressed with him, and I'm glad I chose him as my surgeon. He was very open and honest about everything and he's also very friendly. I have talked with a couple people who have had him do their surgeries, and they all had absolutely wonderful things to say about him.

Emily, I am a patient of Dr. Harrington's. He is a great surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone that is thinking of WLS. He explained everything and told me exactly what was going to happen. He is great!

I would also be interested in hearing about Dr. Harrington. Right now I have an appointment with Dr. Hutcher in late September, But am thinking of switching to Dr. Harrington since he does the surgery lap. However when I asked thier office for the main differences and pros and cons of lap vs. open I was disappointed when thier wls coordinator told me there were no differences, which after reading here I have found that there are differences, like chance of hernia (30% for open 1% for lap) healing time, etc.

I had a lap RNY done by Dr. Harrington on 6/26/01. He is a fine surgeon. Great bedside manner. I would definately reccomend him. Look at my page on this site for more info. You are welcome to contact me if you have any questions.
