Question:
I want info. on a VA law that requires insurers to cover WLS?
I read in Barbara Thompsons book "Finding The Thin Person Inside Of You" that there is a law in Virginia that requires companies and insurance providers to offer WLS as an option to their covered employees. Where can I find info. on this law? My insurance has an exemption, but if I can provide proof of a law saying that they have to offer it I may be able to get them to cover it. Anybody knowing anything about this law or how I can find out about it please let me know. — Carol K. (posted on June 9, 2001)

Hi, Carol. Try Walter Lindstrom's site: www.obesitylaw.com. The last I
checked, he had a listing of states that did have laws in place, and
cleared up confusion about some who thought their states were covered and
weren't. Good luck!

Better news yet Carol. Your insurance is based out of MD and for many
years has used that to their advantage to not follow VA insurance laws. MD
has great coverage laws. I would persue this a little further. MAMSI can
be difficult to work with but they will oil a squeaky wheel.
