Question:
My breast bone (called Xyfoid Process) is now sticking out
I has been a year since my sugery and I have lost 170 pounds. My Xyfoid Process bone which is between and below my breasts is sticking out two inches and looks awful when I lay down. My Dr. says I can go to the hospital overnight and have it cut off. Has this happened to anyone else? I didn't have this problem before the surgery. — Gina R. (posted on June 5, 2001)

I have heard of the xyphoid process being cut off during tummy tucks. I
don't know why it sticks out so bad with some, but I know of two people who
had theirs removed. Doesn't seem to bother them at all.

Hi! I mentioned this is Chat many months ago, and someone laughed at me
because my Dr. had told me it was growing because it had gotten messed with
during WLS. She instisted that it couldn't grow. Well, since then I found
out that it is cartilage, not bone, and can grow. Mine poked out about 3
inches, and it was filed away during my hernia repair and TT in October.
I'm sorry I never mentioned it again after getting ridiculed. I should have
concidered the source, and took my surgeon's word for it. Mine looks great
now, the only thing now is my ribs stick out too far!!! --

I can't believe this "question!" I thought I was the only one!!!!
Mine sticks out, too...maybe not three inches, but definitely more than is
normal. I asked my Dr about it & he said only that he didn't go up that
far or do anything to it & it must have been like that before, just
covered up. I KNEW it wasn't! Jeez, I don't know if I want it cut off, but
it does look pretty funny when I lay down. My ribs stick out quite a lot,
too. I, too have lost just over 170#. What causes this to happen, does
anyone know!?! Thanks for posting this!

WOW, I can't beleive this, I was laying in bed just last night, I have the
same thing. Thinking I am losing so much weight my bones are actually
sticking up, My breasts are flat, My dr. suggests, a breast lift first ,
then a thigh lift.
