Question:
What are the absolute essentials I should buy
My husband just lost his job his first unemployment cheque was for $200, obviously we have limited funds. What are the ABSOLUTE NECESSITIES I should buy for the first couple of weeks at home. I don't have my nutrition consult until the afternoon before surgery, so I still do not have a food plan. I already bought Flinstone vitamins but that's about it. — Mandy M. (posted on June 3, 2001)

every dr. is different but most will have you on liquids for at least 1
weeks...if not more...mine had me on them for 2. liquids would be things
like broth (boullion cubed would be the cheapest and make it yourself i
guess), sugar free jello, crystal lite drinks are good but you can skip
them and just have water, yogurt (i was told smoothe....no chunks of fruit
yet), sugar free ice pops are good to quench your thirst. week 2 i was able
to add things like cottage cheese (very high in protein), string cheeese,
mashed potatoes, unsweetened applesauce, sugar free pudding. next comes
soft things like scrambled eggs and tuna (both very high in protein). i
hope this helps you.
