Question:
Am I in need of revision ? ?

The VGB I had in 95 has failed. I dropped about 150 lbs but have since gained back almost 70 lbs of it. I have been dumping since day 1 and am still dumping daily. I can barely eat anything yet the weight finds me. I have tried to fight with exercise and diet restriction. My diet is already restricted because I cant tolerate foods without rejecting. I exercise very very regularly-as much as I can w/o passing out from being malnutrioned. I just had an EGD,stomach scope. The Dr says that my pouch is still small and a revision to RNY wouldnt help me? "I cant eat-Did he seriously think it would be stretched from overeating?" The Dr told me that there is failure associated and that my body has just become used to the pouch. Id like to know what needs to be happening to me to be considered for a revision? Has anyone experienced what I am going thru and what did you do about it? Any comments, suggestions, info, etc. would be greatly appreciated? Thanks.    — S J. (posted on April 27, 2001)

shaunelle, i had a horizontal stomach stapling in 1984, and my story is just about the same as yours, but as more time goes by, you will be able to eat a little, more, but you will keep gaining. i am seeking a revision to an rny. the weay it was described to me by the obesityline people, is that what we had was only a restriction method of dieting, and it works for a while, but having the chemistry that overweight people do, their bodies will adjust. something also needs to be done to the intestines to bypass some of your calories. i am hoping an rny surgery will help, me. i don't know if my pouch is stretched or not yet, as i have not seen a doctor yet. waiting to see one, soon, i hope. where are you located? if you have any questions, please e-mail me: [email protected]. thanks/ hope you get some answers.

I just got in to see a Dr. LePort and he is said I need to have the revision. Eleven years ago I had the gastroplasty and he is going to change it to the gastric bypass. I am hoping that because the sugar and starches will make me sick, that I will start losing instead of gaining. With the gastroplasty, the chips and sweets disolve and go down easily so I hope this is the answer to my weight problem. Good luck on getting the revision. I think this will work for us.
