Question:
Is My Insurance Company Being Overcharged or What?

I have just received a statement from my insurance company that the hospital portion of my bill alone for my open RNY was $40,000. I was told that it would run $18-25,000. I had no complications and was only in the hospital 3 days. Has anybody else paid this much? The surgeon and anesthesiologist bill is not even included.    — Donna H. (posted on April 9, 2001)

Was it the hospital that estimated your hopsital portion or was the estimated portion for you surgeon? Either way it cannot hurt to get an itemization of the charges. Most insurance companies have fraud divisions too.. you can always review the charges and point out any discrepencies and issues to them. Good luck!
