Is My Insurance Company Being Overcharged or What?

I have just received a statement from my insurance company that the hospital portion of my bill alone for my open RNY was $40,000. I was told that it would run $18-25,000. I had no complications and was only in the hospital 3 days. Has anybody else paid this much? The surgeon and anesthesiologist bill is not even included.
