Question:
Do most pcp's make you pay for a copy of your own records?
Hi Gang, I have two pcp's to obtain medical records from, they both want to charge me yet if I sign the release they will send them to the hospitals for free. 1) I need to send my copies to two hospitals 2) I I plan on getting a new pcp after surgery so they will also need a copy 3) I would like to review them to help me fill out these long packets I need to fill out and my records will help me with the dates of diets, lbs lost and gained, etc. My pcp's office is very disorganized and sloooooooooow, been calling everyday for a week just to get results from blood and urine test and no call yet today, friday... now the week-end. geesh! hi. i used to work for an md. if you have your records sent to another
doctor, they dont usually charge. if you want them yourself, or if your
insurance company asks for them, then they usualy do charge. i believe the
usual price is around 75 cents per page

Renee,
I obtained records from 7 dr.'s, clinics. I gathered all this material so
I could 1)have the documents for my personal refference, 2)help me to
outline my past diet history and weight history, 3) so that I would be able
to have the documentation to be better prepared for my consult, my ins.
approval and any other hoop I had to jump thru to get my wls approved. I
did have to pay 2 of the 7 dr.s to get my records (the other 5 did not
charge me) I did pay one dr. around $40 for my records but it was worth it,
I made 5 copies of all records and I had one in hand for my surgeon, my new
pcp and I did have to end up sending out a copy of all to my ins. co. So I
guess in short I'd advice a person to get the records for their self and
make copies so you will be prepared, I do think that it's worth the price
(even though it is a little rediculous to pay for something that rightfully
belongs to you). Best of luck,

Hi Renee,
I recently needed my records from the previous program I was at. Since I
was requesting these for another Dr./Program and I was asked to bring these
with me I wasn't charged. It would have been $1 per page. I think in my
situation I would have been charged if I wanted them for me but since I
could provide the info. as to who they were going to I was ok. Just call
and ask. Tell them you were requested to "bring" them. However,
they do need the time to copy so don't make them feel rushed and right
away. I did need them quickly as I had a new appt. in 2 days but hey,
that's there problem.Best wishes. However, even if you do have to pay for
them it would be worth it. However, make a copy to keep for yourself!

I didn't have to pay a dime for my 10 years worth of records. I got a copy
of all, took them home, made a set for myself, and took a set to my
surgeon.
