Do most pcp's make you pay for a copy of your own records?

Hi Gang, I have two pcp's to obtain medical records from, they both want to charge me yet if I sign the release they will send them to the hospitals for free. 1) I need to send my copies to two hospitals 2) I I plan on getting a new pcp after surgery so they will also need a copy 3) I would like to review them to help me fill out these long packets I need to fill out and my records will help me with the dates of diets, lbs lost and gained, etc. My pcp's office is very disorganized and sloooooooooow, been calling everyday for a week just to get results from blood and urine test and no call yet today, friday... now the week-end. geesh! Thanks for letting me vent!
