Question:
Can I have a second surgery?
I had a banded gastroplasty in 1990; a "bypass" of that in 1993 because of severe scar tissue; and now weigh 98 pounds more than I did the first time around (327 pounds). I would like to have a laproscopic surgery, and was wondering whether anyone else out there has ever been in the same position. Thank you. — [Anonymous] (posted on February 8, 2001)

Oh boy are we ever in the same boat.....read my profile if you get a
chance...I had VBG in 96 and RNY 1-22-01....I was unable to have lap
because of previous surgeries. So far so good, I don't feel the hunger all
the time that I did with the VBG. Me thinks this one will work! In answer
to your question: I think there are a lot of us out there that the first
surgery failed, okay I was part of that failure in that I ate solids before
the 2 months was up, what a learning experience...you've got to do exactly
what they tell you...there's a reason for specific instructions I'm finding
out! I wish you the best and if you have any questions please e-mail me.
I'd also like to use this forum to THANK everyone who e-mailed me best
wishes for the surgery, I truly appreciate everyone!!!!!

You might have to shop for a doctor, but I've known people to have as many
as FIVE of these surgeries. But you'll want to use a very experienced
bariatric surgeon.
