Question:
HELP!!! I dont' want to get pregnant before surgery

Okay, well I went off my Birth Control pills 3 weeks ago because of the Blood Clot factor in surgery. I don't have a surgery date yet, but it should be sometime in the next 6-8 weeks. Well last night, my husband and I were having relations, and the condom BROKE!! I do not want to become pregnant before I have surgery, and plan on going right back on the pill as soon as I can after surgery. It is my understanding that I am infertile. I haven't had a child in 6 years, and when I am not on the pill, my periods come once every 3 months or so. I have not been formally diagnosed with PCOS, but I have a lot of symptoms of it, and wouldn't be surprised if I do have it. I highly doubt that I would become pregnant within 3 weeks of going off the pill (it took me 1 1/2 years to get pregnant with my daughter), but I think I need some reassurances here. Any advice? Should I call my doctor for the morning after pill? Or should I just wait.    — [Anonymous] (posted on September 26, 2000)

Call your PCP or GYN immediatley. There is an emergency pill available for just your problem. You take two birth control pills within 24 hours of unprotected sex then two more pills 24 hours later. As far as reassurance I have none, I had a similar experience coming off the pill six years ago and I have a beutiful six year old daughter to prove it.

I have my first consult appt with the dr in a month, and in preperation for the pregnancy thing, I had a 10 year IUD put in. I figure that should keep me safe when it comes to getting pregnant before the surgery or after until i hit the point where my body is ready for it. I have miscarried many many times and can't wait to have the surgery and maybe not miscarry.
