Question:
I am 7 months postop RNY, had hysterectomy having problems eating

I am 7 months post RNY, have lost 108 pounds, overall doing very well. Had to have total hysterectomy five days ago and have had problems eating and drinking since. Not tolerating foods well at all, cause pain and nausea, liquids just a little better. Is this typical? This was done as an open procedure and was told that the uterus had adhered to the bowel. Could this be why? Thanks Shannon    — Shannon B. (posted on September 22, 2000)

Shannon, I had a total abdominal Hysterectomy 10 days ago. I had open rny 11-99. I have not been able to eat or drink like I had before the Hysterectomy. I can not consume the ame amount of liquid. I had been able to tolerate abut anything but find I am not getting enough protein in daily. I have a suggestion which is liquid protien. I have used Designer Protien which has helped. Also I have tried using a flavored non carbonated water Fruit-2-O. You can get it on line at their sight. It uses Splenda and helps me get needed fluid per day. I have not found it in any store except Target which only carries it in their snack bar area. Diane in Pennsylvania.

Hi Shannon. I had a similar experience when I had my abdominal hernia repaired. It took a little while to get back to where I was. The beauty of it was that I lost some weight, and hadn't for more than a few weeks prior to the hernia repair! Don't worry, be happy!
