Question:
Has anyone had thigh cramps? Did you find later that you had blood clots?

I recently read a web page of a member that has passed. Prior to her surgery she had what she describe as "cramps from hell" in her thighs. It turned out that she had blood clots in both thighs and had to have them removed. I have several times experienced these cramps. I usally can take potassium and the stop. Has anyone else had these. I am kind of concerned that I may have them.    — Gina K. (posted on September 3, 2000)

I think you should consult your Dr. right away. You don't want to take any chances. Hopefully they are just normal leg cramps, but I would talk to the doc to be safe.

Gina, I too get thigh cramps. Are yours on the front of the thigh or the back. I personally have been doing alot of stretching. I have noticed as big improvement. But now I'm concerned too. I would get them by just bending my leg back. I'm going to ask my doctor and I'll tell you what he says. That was a good questions. If you get answer faster than me please email Thanks

I agree, you should always get your medical information from your doctor. If you want opinions, this is the place for it. Here is my opinion. During times when I had low potassium levels, I have leg cramps. These cramps are caused from the lack of potassium in my muscles. This in itself can be serious because your heart is also muscle tissue...that is why severe dehydration can be potentially life threatening. These type of cramps go away with taking potassium or eating a few bananas.....or drinking Gatorade. Pains that come from clots are not so easily treated. But to always be safe......call your doctor for either condition.
