Question:
I am 14 weeks post op - Open Roux-en-Y- distal 4/4/2000
and I am still experiencing abdominal sweeling and tenderness. Is this normal. I will see my doctor next week for my check up. My PCP said he did not feel any hernia's but was concerned with the swelling and tenderness. He was not sure if this was normal due to the amount of surgery that I had in April. Did other experience this kind of discomfort? — ann A. (posted on July 19, 2000)

I am 17 weeks post op (22/3/00) and am still experiencing some tenderness
on my stomach and around my scar. I still have some swelling near the
bottom of the scar but not as much as 4 weeks ago. My surgeon has told me
that it is not unusual for some people to have some swelling and tenderness
for a few months afterwards but that if it gets too swollen or too tender
then i must see him straight away. If your swelling and tenderness are
only minor mention it to your doctor and see what they say. If it is
extremely sore and swollen see someone immediately. I hope this helps?

Ann: We have the same surgery date, 4/4 and I have no tenderness, no
swelling. I had open RNY with 5 feet bypassed.
