Question:
Do most women have a C-section after weight loss surgery to deliver a baby?

I had a c-section 4 years ago when I gave birth to my daughter. I am now 10 months post-op and am pregnant. I was curious of other womens experience with pregnancy & labor after weight loss surgery. Is a c-section likely or recommended?    — Jennifer A. (posted on June 6, 2000)

Hi Jennifer, I had 2 children after my weight loss surgry. The first one 2 years post-op, the 2nd one, 4 years post-op. I had them both naturally.I had no more of a higher risk for a c-section than any other woman might have. They now even let women try to deliver their babies vaginally after having a previous c-section. Talk with your doctor about your options. Have him keep a close eye on your iron count. It tends to be low post-op during pregnancy. P.S. Both of my children were very healthy. They weighed around 7 pounds each. I even breast fed my first child for 13 months. Nutrition was never a problem!!!! Good luck

I had a c-section the first pregnancy pre-WLS. I was encouraged to try a VBAC this time. Unfortunately, the baby was breach and I ended up with another c-section, but it was not related to my WLS at all. I will say my recovery was so much easier. Last time it took almost 2 months to fully recover. This time, I am totally recovered now, at only 13 days. No incision pain, I can stand , walk, lift. It islike I never had the c-section at all. Good Luck!!
