Question:
Anyone else have problems with adhesions 4+ years out?
Hello everyone! I had my surgery in March of 2000 so I will be five years out soon. My surgeon took out my gall bladder when he did my bypass. I was just wondering if it is possible for adhesions to develop in that area or if it is possible that the bile duct is what is causing pain in that area. It isn't severe but can take my breath away at times. I would appreciate any ideas. — rinnchris (posted on February 15, 2005)

Yes, anytime you have surgery you can develop adhesions. I had this happen
at 2 years postop. An adhesion got twisted around a portion of small
intestine causing pretty bad pain. I did still have my gallbladder so they
went in to take that thinking that was what the problem was and found the
kinked bowel.

I am currently experiencing difficulties in this area as well. I have had
two c-sections, a gallbladder removed, and a previous gastroplasty. It
appears now that I have adhesions around my liver and attaching
to/irritating my rib cage. I have just had a CAT Scan to see if they can
figure out some options. I am scheduled for a RNY in April so they may do
all at the same time

Not at 4 years but at 10 months post op I had emergency surgery because of
adhesions. Scar tissue has wrapped around my colon and also the opening
from my pouch to my intestine. It felt like the most awful gas pain I had
ever experienced. My gastric bypass was my 4th abdominal surgery. Adhesions
can come from any adominal surgery. Carrie

I ended up in the ER 1.5 yrs post op......only to find I have a gall stone
that has developed in my common duct. My gb was taken out in 95!
Another time I had bad pain and ended up at the ER I thought I had a
blocked intestine but my intestines were spasiming and causing this
pain..........it almost felt like contractions......coming and going.
Ive had a c section, gb removal, and DS/bpd with hernia repair.........this
April I go back under the knife for another hernia repair and a tweek to
the original DS/bpd.
The thought of adhesions and scar tissue does scar me....but I gotta have
these.
Good luck to you!
