Question:
Is the TT pain same as the open RYN?
I had open RNY June 2003 and it was extremely painful due to a leak I had and they had to go back in four times to find. This was the worse pain I have ever had in my life! I'm wanting a TT but I'm scared the pain may be the same or worse. Is it the same? Also, I have a (fat)roll that hangs over my jeans, when I have the tt it won't be there anymore, right? Where can I get before and after TT pictures? — [Deactivated Member] (posted on October 6, 2004)

Hi, I had the tummy tuck, hernia surgery 9 months after the open, after
having quite a time from healing from the wls I was a little concerned, but
other than not being able to stand straight for a couple of weeks it wasn't
that bad, I have the flatest stomach, which is upbelievable for this 63 old
grandma of 14, yesterday I bought a size 10 zip up slacks, use to never
wear a zip up pants when I was size 24-26, or jeans either, what a
blessing, I am still after 3years this months so glad for this surgery. As
far as the area about the waist I went for a little lipo on it, and make
sure they get your area in the pubic flat, I had to go back and have it
pulled up more, and a little lipo which he didn't charge for, best of
wishes for your good outcome, a friend nancy susie meriwether

The RNY for me was WAY more painful than my TT ever was.

I felth the RNY was the most painful thing I have ever had. My lower body
lift with muscle tightening has been a walk in the park in comparison. I
did it out patient and feel great.

I agree with the rest the lap RNY was the WORST pain EVER!! Don't get me
wrong the 1st and 2nd days were alittle rough but nothing like the wls!
The TT will be the best thing since wls! I had my TT, breadt lift in 5-05
and it is so amazing!!Good luck and best of health to you!!!

I had lap RNY July 2003 and didn't feel it was that painful. Left the
hospital and didn't take anymore pain meds. My TT on the other hand was a
nightmare. I am sorry, don't mean to scare you, but it was the worst pain I
have had with a surgery and I have also had gallbladder, vein stripping,
etc. I think my pain was made worse though because just a few hours after
surgery I was back in for 4 more hours of emergency surgery and they had to
open up the same incision again. I just assume that aggravated it and made
it more painful. Good luck to you with your TT.

I had worse pain initially with the TT but felt much better by a week out.
With the RNY I was feeling pretty rotten for 2 1/2 weeks. I think it is
like comparing apples and oranges. I would do both surgeries again
without question. Good luck!

I had no pain with my Bypass but was told upfront by the doctor, be ready
for some real pain. I'm going in for a thigh and butt lift and having my
arms done. I going into this knowing that there is going to be pain and
finding out information on how to best manage it (exercises, mental
imaging, lots of protein - helps the healing process, iron - strong blood,
lots of water). It's better going into this type of surgery knowing that
you are going to have pain. You can prepare. Good Luck!

Most of my patients think an open RNY was worse than TT. Laparoscopic
surgery was of course less painful than a TT. There is a newer pain pump
called "On-Q" that automatically pumps numbing medicine 9a
long-acting Novocaine) to the muscles taht are tightened. Has made a HUGE
difference for a lot of my patients.

I guess it totally depends on the person. If your RNY was very painful
because of the leak, etc., then the TT might seem like a piece of cake for
you. Personally, I thought my TT was more painful than my open RNY. Not
saying it was unbearable by any means at all....just because of the nature
of the incision and it taking longer for me to recover. They will help you
out with all the pain meds you need though. YES, the fat roll will be
gone!!! I am so pleased with my TT!!

I had the OnQ pain pumb for the horizontal incision on my recent lower-body
lift. I didn't have any real pain associated with that part of the surgery.
I had some discomfort and tightness in the abdominal area from the muscle
tightening and hernia repair, but I think the OnQ pump was a big help.
Overall I would say the pain for me was less intense initially with the LBL
compared to the WLS, but it is more widespread and has lasted longer. It's
been close to two weeks, and I'm feeling much better, but I still have lots
of random pulls and tweeks and soreness. It's worth it though.
