Question:
Need To Find Out if There Is An Alternative to Upper GI ?????
Hi Everyone: I am having problems with my blood levels and according to my hematologist, I need to have an upper GI. I already tried to have this test once and threw up all over the Dr. 2 times. I have already had an endoscope and a colonoscopy. They are checking for an internal bleed. I just don't think I can do this Upper GI. I HAVE TRIED. Any other alternative tests??????? — Joi G. There is a camera pill you swallow that apparently sends images. I have not
seen one but my dad did one. Painless. Takes pix all the way down the
system. However, it might not give the dimension they want to see if they
are looking for an obstruction or misrouting. My dad was being checked for
severe anemia, too, and had been scoped at both ends so much that he was
beginning to think it was a normal weekly part of life or something. The
camera DID find the problem, BTW. He is not WLS

Ask if they can give you Reglan before the upper GI. It increases gastric
motility and would move the contrast solution out of your stomach quicker.
It would still show any ulcerations. I'm not sure if a CT scan or MRI would
work. Ask about those. Good luck.
