Question:
Anyone about 5 yrs+ in need of a revision?

OK, my problem...I have had staple line ulcers, with granulomas on it, this was approx. 10/03 along with gastric ulcers in my pouch. I have been steadily gaining weight since about May 03 as well. I have gone from a size 8/10 @ 140 to 185 and 13/14. I can eat A LOT MORE than say a few months ago. My ulcer symptoms are coming back, I have pain in my pouch, despite the Protonix I am on. Should I try to talk to my surgeon about a revision? Try to fix the distended pouch and fix the ulcers? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! I had a revision at 5 yrs, lots of marginal ulcers, but the final one was due to staple line disruption. Is that possible?

Whoh...I feel like I'm reading my own question and profile. Dang. My only suggestion is to get a scope and actually SEE what's going on. Protonix doesn't work as well with me as does Nexium and Aciphex. One of the possibilities we are considering for myself is that the staples are becoming irritated or being rejected by my body and causing little ulcerations at the point of contact. This may cause the staples to come loose and in turn creating a staple line disruption. This may also be a possibility for you as well.
The pain is not fun and I am currently taking two Nexium or Aciphex per day just to function. Carafate does not have any effect on me whether I take it in pill or liquid form.
Before you speak with your surgeon about a revision, speak with him about finding out exactly where you pain is coming from and what is causing it. From an insurance point of view, it's easier to 'fix' your pain, than it is to revise your WLS. Even if the two surgeries are identical and give you the same result.
I have a scope scheduled for thursday, I will know more about myself then. I am experiencing ALOT of what you have, Im just a couple years behind you. It's so very funny, I'm even starting Nursing school next week. Best of luck to you.

Marni, are you on the Grad list? Lots of long-term revisionists there, for various reasons. Mega-brain power there, too. Run your question by the Grads...you should get lots of good, helpful responses. Here's the link: [email protected]
