Question:
What do they do for the Upper GI?

I went to the Doctor today concerning my stomach pain for the past few days and my stomach has been buldging out and feels hard. The Doctor ordered an Upper GI and im nervous, what do they do? He said they are checking for obstruction and ulcers. Thanks!    — Sandy M. (posted on March 12, 2004)

I had an Upper GI with a lower bowel follow through and all the did was give me some barium to drink (yuk) and they would take Xrays every 15 minutes until it made it to my lower bowels. I took about 3 hours.
