What do they do for the Upper GI?

I went to the Doctor today concerning my stomach pain for the past few days and my stomach has been buldging out and feels hard. The Doctor ordered an Upper GI and im nervous, what do they do? He said they are checking for obstruction and ulcers. Thanks!
