Question:
I am almost 1 year post op and having chest pains
I had my surgery on November 19, 2002. I am almost 1 year post op and down 90 lbs. I am 26 years old and had my gall bladder removed in July 2003 due to gall bladder pancreatitis. For the past week I have had some nasty chest pains directly behind my heart. I am not sure if I am being too whiney or if I should contact my surgeon and let him decide. I am a healthy person, just as of late with these pains. I am just looking for some reassurance and maybe some answers as to what might be causing these pains. — Erica C. (posted on November 4, 2003)

First....always talk to your doc....I had pains like that too and I thought
it was gas....turned out to be a very bad ulcer. DO NOT WAIT TO HAVE IT
CHECKED OUT.

Chest pains should never be ignored. It may have nothing to do with your
surgery ... call your doctor ASAP.

No insult intended, but with chest pains it is best to go to an ER and/or
call your doc not just ask our opinion! It could be something small or
perhaps an indication for something really major. You are NOT whining! No
need to be ashamed. But your body is telling you that something is wrong.
Please seek help. Best of luck to you.

Never wait to contact your dr about anything that causes you concern. The
more you keep your dr informed of what's going on with you, the better your
success and health will be. At my last visit, my surgeon told me that he
wanted to continue to see me twice a year and to have bloodwork done on a
regular basis to minimize the risk of anything going wrong in the future. I
am almost 11 months post-op and down 93#'s. If you are having chest pains
or any pain for that matter, see your dr. Maybe it's gas...maybe it's not!
