Question:
What do I keep track of??
I have not lost any weight since Feb. I am down 65-70 pounds and since I am nearly 1 year out and want to lose more (I really want to lose 40 more pounds but will take what I can get.) I am wondering Do I do like the protein power plan and Atkins or do I keep track of calories? If I do Atkins then the cals get high If I do cals then I can't seem to get in enough protein. What has worked for you? Also at 1 year out did any one else have trouble getting in enough liquids and could this be hindering the weight loss? I get at least 32 oz in but sometimes it is hard to drink even that. I have no problem eating so I know that I do not have any complications from surgery. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. — Lynne K. (posted on June 3, 2003)

Use the Atkins plan as an example of how to eat. Read his site on the web.
Also use the Fitday.com site to journal your food and keep track of your
protein, carbs, etc. Its been a big help to me. I strive to drink 64 oz of
water a day, eat 90 grams of protein, and not go over 50 carbs a day. I
walk for exercise about 5 days a week. I take plenty of vitamins. A real
assortment. I have had my surgery amost 4 months ago and I am down 90 lbs.
Good luck to you.

You'll see high calories with Atkins because of the fat that plan permits,
much more so than from the protein. But remember, if you're an RNYer, you
malabsorb at least some fat, so personally, I'm less concerned about
calories from fat than I am carbs or sugars. You don't say what your
current calorie intake is, or what your protein gram versus carb gram
intake is, or whether and how much you eat sugars, carb snacks, etc., or
whether you're exercising (all of which are variables to be looked at).
And yep, you're only getting about half the water you should be getting per
day (64 oz. of noncaffeinated, noncarbonated, no sugar beverages is what
you want at a minimum). I would suggest setting an overall limit of
calories for yourself, along with a limit on the carb grams you take in
(see fitday.com for values), add exercise, and add water and exercise, and
see if it helps. Good luck!
