Question:
Ok another RS question! I need advice from those who had it done.
I know to look for a Plastic Surgeon and Interview several, but when it comes to the Insurance(I have BCBS PPO)can I call them first to see if I qualify or do I have to go see my Doctor or a P-Surgeon first? Also, should I start looking now 7mo post-op, my weight is slowing down alot, or should I wait until my 1year? I'm not sure how long the RS time frame is on getting approved til day of surgery? Thank you for the help...I'm so clueless and I don't know people personally that's had this done to ask questions :o) — Sandy M. (posted on April 28, 2003)

Sandy~~I was told to wait at least 12 to 18 months before having plastic
surgery done. Sometimes your skin will catch up with you weight loss
although I doubt mine will. I am 7 months post op like you but I am still
losing and I dont want to have two TT's done which is what might happen if
you do this too soon. My surgeon feels that your window of opportunity to
lose weight is about 18-24 months so have some patience and let your body
get to wear it wants to. A lot of plastic surgeons wont even operate until
your weight has been stable for 6 months. With regard to insurnace I have
Blue Cross PPO and they have a website and a book which tells what Dr.'s
are covered. Call your plan and ask if they provide the same information.
Usually if you have a PPO you dont need any kind of referral. Good luck to
you. Wendi Open RNY 9/19/02 down 117lbs
