Question:
What can I swallow without cutting up the pill for pain relief?
I was told never to swallow anythig larger than an M&M and im so sick of cutting up pills. Is there a tylonol product or off brand that is safe to swallow? The kids chewable medicine takes half a bottle, so to me that's a waste of money. Thanks for the help! 6.5 post-op open rny lost 110# — Sandy M. (posted on April 12, 2003)

They make Tylenol for adults in liquid form. Thats what I use. Otherwise

I take the Tylenol gelcaps. They are small and the gel caps disolve very
quick so it will still be absorbed.

Hi, I have found that this is the most difficult thing for me. I was a 4
Advil at a time taker for my headaches. I'm afraid to take pills yet (12
weeks out) I started taking the EXEDERIN QUICK TABS, they dissolve in your
mouth. I sip a tiny bit of water with them and they dissolve instantly. The
QUICK TABS have NO ASPIRIN in them, same ingredients as Tylenol except the
quick tabs do have caffeine in them.

I just bought a pill crusher for use after surgery. It apparently turns
them into powder, which might be easier than cutting them up.

Different surgeons have different ideas. The five of us in my family who
have had RNY, were started on Percocet tablets for pain, the day after
surgery. We also advanced from chewable vitamins to Centrum (or generic
equivalent), which is a pretty good sized tablet, at 3 weeks post-op. Our
surgeon does not require cutting, crushing, or changing to liquid
medications and we have all had no problems at all. We are all 7-39 months
post-op. Best wishes!
