Question:
Will it close up again?
Hi, I just had a stricture opened yesterday, after being sick for about a week, not keeping anything down, including water. Have my surgeons office to blame for ignoring my complaints for almost a week. My question is, I can't imagine going through that procedure again to open the intestine back up that was sealed shut. What are the chances of it closing up again? I am only 6 weeks out today, that's part of the reason the office kept blowing me off, they kept saying "no one has ever had a stricture this soon" Well, do I get an award or something for being the first??? Thanks — kim V. (posted on March 20, 2003)

4 weeks postie is average for stricture to show up. Unforuntately, it might
take more than one dilitation to make it stay open. You were made ga-ga
for this, yes?

I, too, had a stricture, and was scoped yesterday. My doc said it wouldn't
be unusual to have it happen again, maybe even twice. It wasn't a big deal
to have it fixed. I let it go way too long, with vomiting for hours at a
time over a period of several weeks. My stupidity, won't do that again.
Good luck!
