Question:
Will having a bridge (dental) prevent me from having WLS?
I am in the process of having dental work done and need a bridge on the bottom since I am missing my lower right molars. I will also be losing a lower left molar. I would like to know if this can keep me from having surgery? I know we need our teeth to chew but I seem to do fine right for now and know that this will change eventually. Thanks, — cherby56 (posted on March 10, 2003)

I am 100 percent positive that having a Bridge does not change you having
WLS. You just tell the hospital and the surgical team that you are having
it done, Prior to surgery, also you might want to ask the dentist if you
will still have a good fit, if you loose alot of weight.

HI there, Cheryl! I had 2 bridges put in a couple of years ago and had no
problem getting surgery. And after losing some weight, I haven't noticed
that my teeth have changed in any way. Any questions.. fell free to e-mail
me. Vi open RNY 9/23/02 down 110 lbs.

I have had a full set of dentures for several years. I had surgery on
8/8/02. No problem whatsoever......in fact I told the anethesologist that
my husband had never seen me without them...(you have to take them out
during the surgery).. he said no problem. The nurses in the recovery room
were kind enough to put them back in for me. I am doing great...down 81
pounds, and no problems with them AT ALL.. Good luck and congrats on your
surgery.

Make sure you have a good fit (or use the glue stuff) because post-op we
have to chew every bite until its pulverized!!!!!
