Question:
Unrelenting chest pain:

My surgery was 1/7/03 and I have had pain between my breasts right over the chest bone from almost day one. This pain radiates to the back, and has recently become unrelenting. I can't lay down because it becomes so much worse. I am not throwing up, but sometimes have pain in my throat area also after eating. Anyone have any ideas for me?    — sherry H. I was told chest pain is a sign of fullness, but sincr it radiates to your back that is why I am tad bit concerned. My surgeons office told me the first signs of a leak is back pain, you should call them and see what they think you might also be swallowing too much air I am newly post op and have been having that problem.

The area you are describing is where the pouch is located. I would have horrible chest pain in that area as an early post-op if I ate too much-no throwing up-just lots of chest and throat pain. Is this when you feel the pain? If so, then try eating much smaller amounts of food-softer foods- take a minute between bites and go very slow. See if that helps.

Call your surgeon and see what he tells you, it may be from the surgeon using rib spreaders, if he did use them.
