Question:
Is WLS still possible if someone is on a significant dose of coumadin daily?
I am hyper-couagulable. I stay in a hyper-couagulable state. I take 10 - 15 mg. of coumadin a day. I have a greenfield filter in my vena cava that was put in in 1989. Last year I had major abdominal surgery, and as with any surgery, it was dangerous. But I came through fine. — Paula H. (posted on November 27, 2002)

I was taking 7mg coumadin per day before my surgery. I had to take Lovenox
injections twice per day for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I was then
administered Lovenox after my surgery. I had to do injections 2x per day
for 2 weeks after returning home while my coumadin was building back up to
theraputic levels in my bloodstream. I also was required to have a
Greenfield filter installed prior to surgery. So yes, it is possible, but
as you can imagine, I was one walking fool after the surgery. No way I was
going to let any clots form.
