Question:
I'm worried I'm eating to much

I'm still losing so I'm sure I'm okay but I just need some reassurance. I'm 6.5 months post-op and I'm down 119lbs. I still lose about 2 or 3 lbs a week so I know I'm not overeating yet but I wanted to make sure I'm on the right track. For breakfast I had an omelette made of 1/4 cup eggbeaters w/ ham and swiss cheese and 1/4 small cantalope. for lunch I had a veggie burger w/ 2 tsp of marinara sauce and mozerella cheese melted on top( no bun)and a 1/4 of a small cantalope. For dinner I ate a grilled boneless pork chop( 3 oz ) and about 1 1/2 cups lettuce w/ light dressing. For an evening snack I had a handful of grapes and a sugarfree popsicle. Do you think this sounds like to much food? Sometimes it feels like I can eat so much and other times I get full after a few bites. I started at 5'2" and 332lbs and now weigh 213lbs but I still want to lose another 70lbs if I can, what do you think my chances are of making that goal? Also I walk uphill on the treadmill 50 minutes 5 days per week and lift weights 3 times per week. please let me know if you think I'm doing everything I should be. Thank You    — Alison N. You are doing better than me, so there is nothing for me to say. The only thing that should concern you at this point is your blood tests. If they are fine also. Congratulations.

Another vote for doing good. Sounds like you're making healthy food choices and the volumes seem right on track to me. I'm 14 months post op and eat what a "normal" size person would eat. We don't eat those initial post op tiny size portions forever (that would be horrible!) Keep up the good work! -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -131lbs

Alison, what a healthy eater you are!! Congrats on the weight loss, thats alot of weight in 6 months..also, I'm very impressed with the amount of exercise you do. I think your doing just fine and will continue to lose. I know what you mean about feeling like you are eating too much. When you get used to tiny amounts, then you start eating more, it can be disconcerting at first. Your doing just fine.

As others have said.. sounds good to me... but I'd suggest if you're really worried about how much you're eating and the quality.. keep track at an easy place like fitday.com... I love what that tells me.. gives me percentages of fat and protein and carbs... all the work is done for you.. you just input what you eat and it will tell you.. if you're eating too much.. it works so well for me. Good luck!

Nynka you are my hero. I have almost your same stats and I pray to God above that I have your success. congratulations on a job well done. I am only about 12 days post op and have the same eating concerns but I just started really writing down why I put in my mouth and the times and could really see that I am ok. do that and let logic take over. We as MO have a tendency to stress over all the eating that we must do you are doing FANTABULOUS

Alison, what a great menu! I think your eating plan is great. What time is supper? :P (just kidding!)<P>One thing I noticed, though, is that you're walking 50 minutes five times a week on the treadmill. I have two cautions for you: First, don't overdo walking, and second, if you can, try to incorporate other types of exercise along with (and instead of) your walking sometimes. Fifty minutes is a long time on the treadmill. Be careful you're not walking too much, as you can develop foot problems even after losing a lot of weight. After losing 80 pounds on Weight Watchers, using just a treadmill for exercise, I developed plantar fascia and am still in orthopaedic shoes three years later, though my feet are much improved now. But when I couldn't walk, I quit exercising, and gained a lot back. What I SHOULD have done is switched to a bicycle or something else, but was too stubborn about my treadmill to do it at the time. Have you thought of using some other machines or different types of exercise for your aerobic activity? Such as maybe interval training (three minutes walking, one minute running, max time: 30 minutes), or a stairmaster, water aerobics, exercise bicycle (recumbant), or elliptical machine? Even if your feet are doing just fine, it can help shake up your body (and lose weight) to incorporate different types of exercise along with your walking. Congrats on doing so well!

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. Today I started including other cardio exercises into my exercise plan. I did the recumbent bike but I didnt like it as much as the treadmill. Next I will try the eliptical machine, maybe I will like that better. Thank you again Alison
