Question:
I live in Silver Spring, Maryland and I have BCBS individual plan.

I found out on Monday that I have been denied surgery because of an exclusion in my policy. Can anyone suggest another insurance that covers the open RNY in Maryland? I got my policy during open enrollment season since I couldn't get coverage because of my diabetes. Also I am self-employed. Will be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks. I didn't have any problems with Kaiser, though there is a lot of hoop jumping involved. BTW, I am confused about your exclusion...ins. cos are required by law in MD (and many states) to pay for WLS if medically necessary, but your employer gets an exclusion if he opts not to pay for that portion of coverage. You say you are self-employed...when you purchased your coverage did they not offer it to you (for more $ of course)? At any rate, good luck!
