Question:
help reducing the hips/butt etc area?
I'm doing fine with my weight loss, at least according to the doctor and me, 50 pounds or so in almost 8 weeks and I take my measurements.. I've lost over 12 in my chest and less than 6 in my hips/butt area. I know why this happens, but when I look in the mirror I'm actually seeing it more and more and I hate it. I walk and bike for exercise right now, and do some upper body weight work, help.. how can I reduce my hips/butt and lower abdomen area? Thanks! — Lisa C. (posted on August 20, 2002)

You may want to try swimming laps with a kick board or do a water exercise
class(they concentrate on useing the legs for a better cardio wkout). If
you don't have a pool available start weight training with your legs as
well as your upper body. Most gyms have machines to work your outer and
inner thighs and I bet you'll find a contraption sitting in a corner that
you use for your tushie lift. No one uses it at my YMCA but it works great
you'll feel it instantly!! GOOD LUCK!!!

I assume your butt and hips probably are your area where you put on weight
the easiest? Me too and this area is the last to go, but it does! Walking
and any exercise that you work below the waist helps. Your only 8 weeks out
and doing great BTW, so just be pateint it will come!

Girl I am right there with ya!! I have gone from a 28/30 in my tops to
16/18 and 28/30 in bottoms to like 22's :( My belly is the big problem,
the fat liked to settle there more than anything else. My waist is
actually 15 inches smaller than my hips...go figure. You ought to try
finding pants that fit that!! I have been watching before and after pics
and the ones that tracked throughout their loss and have noticed that many
of the women lost in the upper half first, then the lower half caught up.
Good luck :) I just look forward to having an hour glass figure :)

One poster said "be patient, it will come". Well I'm 15.5 months
out and it still ain't come. I still have a huge butt and thighs.

I have read in many books that you can't lose fat in spots....you can't
target one area and lose fat there. When you exercise you burn calories,
and you body chooses where to pull fat from, you CAN spot tone. As your
body has less and less fat to pull from up top it will begin to pull it
from the other areas of your body. Hope this helps you.

For me, it's been walking, walking and more walking. I do 30 minutes a day
for 5 days a week. It will take a few months to notice the difference but
I've been doing it since January and I measured my hips and they were 38
inches. For me, that was about a 16 inch loss in my hips. My butt is
normal sized now. I KNOW it's from the walking. I don't do any other type
of exercising.
