Question:
I am sick of water. Will sugar free Kool-aid work?
I can't stand the thought of tea, coffee or water. Just the thought almost makes me sick. It seems regular kool-aid w/ splenda hurts my pouch so will suger free kool-aid count as my water? also it is very hard to drink more than 40 oz. a day. any help would be great. — Lynne K. Anything that is liquid will count. I use sugar free country time
sometimes.

Although water is the best choice, SF Kool-aid should be ok. I drink
Crystal Light myself. I was told as long as it is caffine free/sugar free,
it counts towards water. I couldn't handle water for about 5 or 6 months
after surgery, so I LIVED on Crystal Light and never had a problem with
dehydration. I'm glad now that I can drink water as I loved it pre op! I
just fill up a water bottle with it/Crystal Light and keep it with me all
day long, drinking it . What I do is fill a water bottle up 2/3 with my
Crystal Light, or water, and freeze it. Then when it is frozen I take it
out and fill it the rest of the way with cold Crystal Light.(or water) That
way, as it melts, I have *cold* stuff to drink at all times.

i just talked to my dr the other day because i was afraid of dehydration.
they told me to drink SF koolaid, SF countrytime lemonade (which made me
have diarehea), or eat watermelon. i try to drink as much water as i can,
but i don't drink nearly enough. anything that is water based is fine they
said.

Lynne, SF Kool-aid, crystal lite, SF decaffeinated tea is all great. Make
sure everything is decaf because caffeine dehydrates the cells.

Try sugar free popsicles for a nice cold treat. I really enjoyed them when
I was a new post-op and I still like them. There are also some bottled
waters out there that are flavored and sugar free. Fruit2O and Iced
Botanicals to name a couple. I get mine at SAMS. I also drank watered
downed fruit juices as a new post-op, per my Doctors instructions. Right
now I am enjoying a glass of sugarfree, decaf Nestea Iced Tea. Very tasty!

Of course! Just keep it decaf. Crystal Lite decaf iced tea has been my
mainstay.

Most of the time water still doesnt sit well with me(6 weeks out) I found a
cran-grape juice light sweetened with splenda and I cut it 1/4 juice to 3/4
water and it tastes great! Sorta like watered down wine. lol But it stays
in and helps me meet my fluid intake. I couldn't stomach the sugar free
kolaid as it gave me headaches. Good luck!

I have a hard time getting all of my liquids in also.I am three months
post-op and doing horribly with water and such.I tried sugar free kool-aid
and crystal light but it was toooooo sweet for me and made me gag.I tried
sugar free iced tea and can do a little better with that.My advice would to
keep trying to get in as much liquids as possible because I went for my 3
month check up and I am soooo very dehydrated that the nurse cant even get
enough blood from me to check my blood work...So DRINK anything that you
can!!
Hugsss to you

I have found that I can more easily get in all the water I need by using a
straw and lots of ice. I read it on someone else's post and tried it...it
really helps. I use SF Kool-aid and Crystal Light as treats. Artificial
sweeteners make me hungry and cause me to have a lot of fluid retention in
my ankles and hands. So for me, it's just water all the day long. Good
luck!

What I did was take 1/2 cup of chrystal light(since it is way to sweet by
itself) and about 20 oz water and it would flavor my water enough so that
it didn't taste like water and wasn't too sweet. I am assuming you can do
the same with sugar free KoolAid. The artificial sweeteners don't bother
me, but splenda makes me hungry not too long after I have it. I used alot
of the Strawberry Kiwi premade crystal light.
