Question:
Will I always have to have the shots?
I understand the need for B-12 but was curious if I would need to have the shots for the rest of my life or would there be a point when I could have it in pill or liquid form. And isn't the shot given monthly? The idea of having to go in month after month for the rest of my life seems tedious, but I will do it if I have to...Thanks! — karmiausnic (posted on June 12, 2002)

you have to do something. You can get acript from the doctor and give
yourself the shots. I take aubligual B 12 daily....it's a pill from GNC
that dissolves under the tongue.

My dr. said to start taking B12 after I was able to swallow pills and I do
now. I am 7 weeks post-op. I take 500 mgs a day. The pill is smaller than a
plain M&M. Check with your DR. to see if it's O.K. for you. Good Luck
and God Bless

My doctor only recommends the B-12 sublinqual.(dissolves under your tongue)
He found that the levels were incredible. Mine was 4x the normal with the
sublinqual. We don't absorb B-12 orally well after WLS.

You have a choice between the shots, sublingual, or liquid. The pills don't
absorb in a rny system. I have used both sublingual and liquid from GNC.

It's more accurate to say you will have to watch your B12 levels at least
twice/yr for life. The sublinguals may work for you if you are faithful to
the, or not. I'm not a lozenge, hard candy person at all, so I would not
be faithful to them. I do a shot. But the frequency varies according to my
blood levels. Guessing doesn't work with B12.
