Question:
Is this definately NOT an exclusion in my policy?
OK, please forgive me for all the insurance questions I have been asking lately, but I'm at that point right now!!! I just got out my policy to look over with Aetna. Under "services not covered" it says "Surgical operations, procedures, or treatment for obesity, EXCEPT when specifically approved by the HMO." Does that mean as long as it's approved I'm ok? — emilyfink (posted on April 26, 2002)

This exclusion states that your insurance company will not pay for WLS on
an obese patient unless they say it is ok. Now, since we are all morbidly
obese, legaly this statement does not qualify. However, what they are
saying is that as long as you have approval from your insurance company
they will cover this surgery on any patient as long as they are classified
as 'obese'. This is a good thing!
