Question:
How long does solid food stay in the pouch before moving into the intestional tract?

I am sure I have heard this or been told this before but I have forgotten probably.I am 3 months post op and still learning. I realize liquids move through pretty quickly but was wondering about different consistancies of food. Say chicken ? or Cottage cheese? It seems to me that the chicken would take longer to filter through than cottage cheese but maybe this has nothing to do with it. ???    — janicediana (posted on March 17, 2002)

The pouch empties out in about 30 minutes. Important to have a beginning and an end to each meal so grazing doesn't occur. Protein will fill you up faster and keep you satiated longer. I eat 6 small meals a day, protein first then veggies. I rarely get to starches. rita rny 3/31/94 463 lbs today 190ish give or take a gallon of water.
