Question:
OK, I need copies of letters sent from PCP's please!
I had my consult with my surgeon and he is having me go for a pre-surgical physical and I will need to get one of those medical clearance/approval letters from my PCP (which she has already agreed to). To help her out, I would like to see copies of what other PCP's had written. NOT a reccommendation for referral, but for the surgery. Thanks! — emilyfink (posted on February 19, 2002)

Emily,
My doctor wrote my letter for the surgery and sited all my co-morbidities
(diabets, sleep apnea, pulmonary hypertension, etc.) Also the lenght of
time I have been overweight and the many diets and weight loss drugs I had
tried. My suggestion would be to have you doctor document as much info as
she can, I work for an insurance company and there is never too much
information to be had, when you are trying to evaluate a case. GOOD LUCK!!
I hope everything goes well for you!

My surgeon also required a physical evaluation before surgery. My family
dr. did a EKG and full physical. Its basically to determine if you are
capable of going through surgery. I wouldn't stress out too much about this
especially if the Dr. has already agreed to giving you clearance.
