Question:
How long until I feel normal?
I don't feel bad, but sometimes I get this "yucky" feeling which is the only way to describe it. I also get this awful taste in my mouth! I understand that is ketosis or something like that but it is horrible!! I want to brush my teeth and tongue every 10 minutes! Also, although don't drink more than water, coffe and every once ina while tea, it all tastes terrible! I know that it will go away, but when??? And although I don't step on a scale every day, I don't feel like I am losing any weight. I know I really need to up my protein intake, but how?? HElp!!!trina — Katrina M. (posted on January 3, 2002)

Hi Katrina, I had my surgery the 15th of November and I remember feeling
yuckie too at times.. and I agree it was not all the time... it was about a
week or two ago that I started feeling good whole days... I found out I was
not drinking enough water, so I increased that... I stopped coffee all
together as for every cup of coffee you have to drink two glasses of water
as coffee is a diaretic. I am thinking if you increase your water intake
you might start feeling better. Also try getting more protien. I have
jerky handy and 1 oz is 10 grams of protien. There is also a protien punch
that you can get at GNC premade and drink it cold alone or mix it with
other crystal light or other sugar free drinks.... Water, protien and
vitamins turned my yuckie feeling around completely.... Good luck and hope
you feel better soon!

Hiya Trina... you didn't say how far post-op you are in your question. I
am just over 3 weeks post-op and have ALREADY discovered that if I slack
off on my water for even a few hours.. I start feeling really lousy (tired,
'yucky', no energy or ambition). I've found something that really works
for me. I have small 10 oz glass bottles that Club Soda or Tonic Water
come in (6 pack). I've filled these with water. I keep 6 of them in the
fridge (total 60 oz). What I'm doing is: each time I get another bottle of
water out, I'll make a CONCENTRATED EFFORT to get JUST THAT bottle of water
down as soon as comfortable to do so. This 10 oz is not so 'threatening'
as a BIG bottle of water... and gets finshed without too much effort.
THEN, in a bit, when I'm thirsty again, I'll get ANOTHER bottle out of the
fridge, and make the concentrated effort to finish THAT bottle as rapidly
as possible without discomfort. By making sure that I get all of those
bottles out of the fridge by the end of the day, I find I've got a great
deal of water in without TOO much effort..!! On days when I get ready for
bed and there is still 1-2 bottles left.. those are the days I've found I
didn't feel as "up to par" as the rest. Hope this helps... Good
Luck and God Bless..

This lasted a couple months for me. Ketosis causes the bad taste of
everything but also provides the BIG fast loss early on. Measure yourself,
when your not loosing much your dimensions will drop. So look at your bad
tastes as roving your loosing great.

The first time I went to see my pcp after surgery (at week 5), he took one
look at me and said I wasn't drinking enough water. That, he said,
explains your lethargy and yucky feelings. He told me to drink 8 16 oz
bottles of water a day (about 2 liters). A week later, I still can't drink
that much, but I'm trying. (still feel tired and yucky, too, though not as
much).
