Question:
Something more than stomach flu??
Two days ago I went to work feeling good, 3 hours later I was home after having a major case of diarrhea and stomach pain. I have not had any more diarrhea but have had nausea and back pain ever since. That same day I did end up having major sweats and back pain (which they say is not dumping) Occassionally I get "episodes" where I am rolling on the floor in pain, this happened that day also, but I have never been left with the nausea before. Of course my mind is thinking I have a staple line disruption or something jsut as bad. I have been hungrier than normal, maybe it's all in my head.... The main probelm is, of course I should ask the Dr. these questions, but I have zero money for copayment etc. I'm also having pain in the lower belly area, which would be more the pelvic/ovaries area... SOrry for the rambling, any thoughts on this??? — Mandy M. (posted on December 28, 2001)

Mandy,
having the flu is almost like having the surgery again, at least that is
what it was like for me, something I never want to go through again, the
diarrhea and stomach pain was so bad I thought I was going to die. Then
came the part where I want to vomit but couldn't and I would pray to vomit
and nothing. I think you need to go and see your doctor it might be
something a little as the flu or it could be something bigger, its better to
be safe then sorry.

I needed to go to the emergency room a couple of months ago because of what
I thought was the flu; I had a lot of the same symptoms that you are
having. My liver enzymes were very elevated, and I was dehydrated. You
might just have the flu, but you have a lot of other symptoms that could be
anything else, related to your surgery or not. Bladder, kidney or urinary
track infection, gall bladder disease, are all things that come to mind
that would need a doctor's care. You already know the answer. Call your
doctor. Your health is very important. Don't compromise it at this point.
Maybe it is just the flu... but don't take risks. If someone you loved
were in this much misery, would you hesitate? Love yourself as much...
Good luck!

Mandy--I don't mean to scare you, but maybe that is just what you need.
The symptoms you are describing is exactly what I was feeling just a few
short weeks ago. I ended up in the ER with terrible pain and it turned out
I had a small bowel obstruction that required emergency surgery. If I
hadn't had this surgery, I could have died from being poisoned by toxins or
losing blood supply from my intestines and having those be
"killed" so to speak. Read my profile for my own experience, but
I would suggest calling your doctor or going to the emergency room. Your
health is certainly nothing to play around with, money in the bank or not.
Good luck and email me if you need to.
