Question:
I'm having severe pain in one leg with swelling.
I'm still hoping to have surgery, but I need thoughts on this. My right leg feels like it's trying to cramp and is like dead weight sometimes. The pain is constant and by the end of the day it's very swollen. An ultrasound was done last week to check for clots but was negative. The doc said use heat, but it's not helping. I even have pain while sitting. Has anyone else had this? What is it? I'm really scared about this, should I be? — Terri G. (posted on December 26, 2001)

Hi, I too had problems with my legs recently and I'm pre-op. I had a
doppler done because of the possibility of blood clots but it was negative.
Did the doctor say that it might be varicose veins or phlebitis? Mine was
both. If that is the case, the best thing to do is to rest your leg and
keep it elevated. I had a hard time sleeping and it seemed like the more I
sat down, the worse it would feel. Make sure to exercise it if possible to
keep the blood circulating also and it should feel better soon. Good luck.
