Question:
Does anyone else have a weird feeling at their breastbone?
I am recently Post-op(10 days), and for the past couple of days as other things in my tummy start to feel better, my Breastbone has this weird feeling. It feels as though the bone is moving when I move my arms. do they have to cut the breastbone or anything when they move the ribs out of the way? Could this just possibly be because of the rib spreader? it is not really a pain, so much as it is an unnerving feeling that the bone is moving. Any help is appreciated. thanks! — sbinkerd1 (posted on December 24, 2001)

I am 12 days post-op, and just this morning my breast bone/esophagas
started hurting. not when I move my arms but touching it, almost as if
someone hit me very hard there, and it feels bruised ( but it\'s not on
then outside). I hope we get some answers.

I didn\'t have the wierd feeling, but I had pain at my breastbone that I
noticed about 3 weeks post-op. I called my surgeon. After asking several
questions (does it hurt all the time? No, only when I bend over or move a
certain way. Can you recreate the pain by pressing on it? Yes. and some
others I don\'t remember). His answer was that it was most likely a
bruised sternum from the surgery and that it would go away before long.

He was right, it did go away after a couple of weeks. Said the reason I
hadn\'t noticed it sooner was because the pain from my incision was more
intense. Once the incision was pretty well healed, I noticed the other
pain.

Since what you\'re feeling isn\'t just pain I
would recommend that you call your doctor. Every one is different and you
shouldn\'t take any chances. Good Luck.
