Question:
How much should you be eating at 9mos post op?
I am 9 months post op and have lost about 140 pounds, I recently picked up my life inChicago and moved to North Carolina. I am an emotional eatter and have tried to be really good. Lately it seems that I am able to eat alot more than I think that I should be. How much is everyone else eatting at this stage? — Tracy C. (posted on November 23, 2001)

Person to person, it varies. I think you should pay more attention
to what you eat and when you eat than you pay to how much you can eat.
(I hope that makes sense....I'm so tired!). If you eat your proteins
first, followed by some veggies and limit your carbs. If you don't
snack and eat only at mealtime. If you drink a minimum of 64oz. of water
a day....if you do all these things for life....you never have to worry
about "how much" you can eat.

I, too, am 9 months post-op. I can eat, in a given day, approximately 1200
calories. I eat a light yogurt for b-fast (120 calories), a Lean Cuisine
and milk for lunch (300-400 calories), 8 oz. of fish or chicken, 1/2 c. of
rice or pasta and vegetables for dinner (500 calories) and a 1/2 bagel w/
cream cheese for a snack (only if I'm hungry!) right before bed (200
calories). Some days, I fall below this amount, and some days I get myself
up to 1500 calories by eating the wrong things. I don't think I've ever
exceeded this amount in one day. My biggest challenge is putting protein
before carbs!! With my current diet, I get in about 60 grams of protein,
but I hear others on this board saying they get in 100+ grams. I dunno, I
do the best I can, but what can I say - I'm a carb addict! Feel free to
email me, and we can share tips and tricks.

If you snack all day long, you can eat alot. The trick is to eat enough at
meals 6-8 oz and drink all day long. I have days where I pick at stuff all
day long - usually PMS week - and I just try to be very careful that I do
this as little as possible or if I have to munch something, make it bulky
and you will fill up fast - popcorn & grapes fill me up FAST!
