Question:
Having open RNY on New Year's Eve, will I be able to play volleyball...
And if it's ok how long will I have to wait until I can play? I play on my Church volleyball team and I love it. It was always a great source of exercise and I am really anxious to find out if I can play. I will be having an open RNY on New Year's Eve. I know a lot of people say that you shouldn't twist & turn for fear of hernias, but I don't know if that means forever or if it's just while the incision is healing. Thanks! Ruth — Ruth L. I would give it at least 6 months. I am 10 weeks post op and just when I
think I'm invincible I'll do some pushing or pulling on something and I am
reminded by the pain that I had a major surgery. Don't take any chances.

Well Happy New Year to a new you!! Congratulations first off. As for the
volleyball, I am currently 13 wks post op and have been playing competitive
softball for about 2 wks (end of fall season softball league). Let me
stress to you, don't push it before you're ready. If there is any doubt in
your mind, don't do it. Before the surgery, I was very in tune with my
body. After the surgery, that was heightened. I am even MORE aware of
what I can and cannot do.
Do yourself a favor and start with walking and/or water aerobics. That
will get you tuned up for the volleyball season. Also be sure to ask your
surgeon when you can resume that activity.
Good luck and Happy New Year

I played volleyball weekly starting at 6 weeks with no problems. I was
encouraged that the weight difference could make playing so much more fun.
I did have a hernia, but it didn't come about till about the 10th month. I
was told it was from hanging skin and constant constipation. Have fun!

I was riding my horse 10 weeks post-op! Playing v-ball shouldn't be a
problem, one would think. Of course, I did have the LAP procedure...!
